OSCAR EDELSTEIN is considered by many as one of the most important and original composers in Argentina. His work is viewed by many as crucial in the map of Latin American contemporary music, new opera and performance. Always pushing the musical lines between the classical, the contemporary & the popular, his career is distinguished by a spirit of independence and a defiant desire to constantly break new ground. His music has been described by critics as the first time that Latin America has led the avant-garde. Having been awarded important prizes throughout his career, in 2011 he was awarded the prestigious award for out-standing artistic achievement by the National Arts Foundation of Argentina.
ENSAMBLE NACIONAL DEL SUR were created by Oscar Edelstein - Argentinean composer, pianist & conductor - in 1997 to work as a group of investigation, creation and independent musical production. This music lab was made up of musicians, composers, artists and technicians.
